This 2 days trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou is a short, rewarding escape if you want to see the best-known kasbah in Morocco without going all the way to the Sahara. You cross the High Atlas Mountains by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, visit the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and spend the night in Ouarzazate.

Day 1
Marrakech, Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate
Your driver picks you up early in the morning in Marrakech, and you head south over the High Atlas Mountains by the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at about 2,260 metres, with views of Berber villages, kasbahs and oases along the way.
You stop at Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified village (ksar) that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987 and a location for many films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. In the afternoon you continue to Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa”, where you spend the night.

Day 2
Ouarzazate, Taourirt Kasbah, Trekking in the Oases of Fint and Marrakech
After breakfast you visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the cinema studios of Ouarzazate, then head to the Fint Oasis for a walk among its palm trees. You may also have the chance to share a cup of tea with local people and learn about life in the oasis.
In the afternoon you cross the High Atlas Mountains again and return to Marrakech.
