A Week from Marrakech to the Sahara
This special Sahara tour is our week-long way to combine Marrakech, the High Atlas Mountains, the valleys of the south and the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Your tour starts with an airport pick-up in Marrakech, then crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Ouarzazate and the Dades Gorge, before reaching the Sahara for a full day in the dunes with a camel ride and a night in a desert camp.
On the way back you drive through the Draa Valley and visit Ait Ben Haddou before returning to Marrakech. The tour includes a guide, 4×4 transport, accommodation with breakfast and dinner and airport transfers, and it can be customised to your budget and interests. Group discounts are available.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Marrakech
We meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. If you have time, you can take a first look at the medina of Marrakech and its main square, Jemaa El Fna, and make your first contact with local people.
Day 2
Marrakech, Ouarzazate and Dades Gorge
You leave Marrakech in the early morning in a 4×4 and cross the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 metres), with superb views of the mountains and Berber villages on the way. You pass through Ouarzazate, sometimes called the “Hollywood of Morocco”, where many films have been shot, and continue to the Roses Valley and the Dades Valley, known as the valley of a thousand kasbahs.

Day 3
Dades Gorge, Tinghir, Erfoud and Sahara Desert
After breakfast at the hotel you drive to the Todra Gorge, a narrow canyon with towering rock walls, palm groves and Berber villages. You then continue through Tinghir and Erfoud to the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga.

Day 4
Sahara Camel Trek
Erg Chebbi is one of the most beautiful dune fields in Morocco, and today is your desert day. In the morning you explore the area around the dunes and visit nomadic Berber families who still live in tents, then stop at an association of people originally from Mali to listen to their music. In the afternoon you return to the hotel to prepare for a camel ride into the dunes, where you sleep in a camp in the middle of the desert.
Day 5
Sahara, Draa Valley and Ouarzazate
After a night in the dunes you return to the hotel for breakfast and set off toward Ouarzazate. On the way you pass Rissani, a traditional market town that was the origin of Morocco’s ruling family and a meeting place of the trading caravans, with its souk under red arches and many ksour.
The road continues through Alnif, Nkob and other Berber villages to the Draa Valley, one of the longest river valleys in Morocco, lined with palm groves. You cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains and reach Ouarzazate, where you spend the night.

Day 6
Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech
After breakfast you leave Ouarzazate and visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then cross the High Atlas Mountains again over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The road winds through mountain scenery and Berber villages, and you reach Marrakech in the late afternoon.
